TWO NEW “PENANG GREEN OFFICE” AWARDS FOR PBAPP

PENANG, Friday, 22.11.2019: Perbadanan Bekalan Air Pulau Pinang Sdn Bhd (PBAPP) has received two new “Penang Green Office” (PGO) awards from the Penang Green Council (PGC).

The two new PGO awards, covering the period 2019 – 2021, are for the:

  • Level 33 Komtar (encompassing the Chief Financial Officer’s Office, the Finance Office and Quality, Safety & Health Office); and
  • Jawi Customer Care Centre in Seberang Prai Selatan.

Accordingly, PBAPP now holds 9 PGO awards. Previously, PGO awards had also been given to the following 7 PBAPP premises:

  • Bayan Baru Customer Care Centre;
  • Komtar Customer Care Centre;
  • Taman Selat Customer Care Centre;
  • Bukit Mertajam Customer Care Centre;
  • Central Laboratory, Sungai Dua Water Treatment Plant;
  • Corporate Affairs Division Office, Level 32 Komtar; and
  • Human Resource Division Office, Level 32 Komtar.

The PGO award takes into account the following criteria: green principles in purchasing office equipment and stationery; waste reduction and recycling; energy conservation; water conservation; paper usage control; control of office equipment usage; indoor air quality improvement; and employee & community engagement.
Dato’ Ir. Jaseni Maidinsa, CEO of PBAPP and PBA Holdings Bhd, thanked the PGC for the latest PGO awards.

“PBAPP is an ISO 14001:2015 certified company that is fully committed towards protecting, preserving and conserving the environment while meeting all of Penang water supply needs,” he said.

Dato’ Ir. Jaseni said PBAPP was also promoting water conservation to ensure sustainability in water supply management. “One of our objectives is to reduce per capita domestic water consumption in Penang. While reducing the risk of a water crisis in the future, water conservation also reduces wastewater discharge.”

Key “green initiatives” undertaken by the PBA Group include:

  • Managing the Air Itam Dam and Teluk Bahang Dam as green public recreational areas;
  • Cultivating public water awareness, water education and water conservation in Penang;
  • Promoting the installation of water saving devices (WSDs) in all premises in Penang;
  • Seeking to commercialise a R&D project to recycle water treatment plant residue as clay bricks; and
  • Encouraging the Federal Government to completely conserve and protect 163,103 hectares of rainforests in Ulu Muda, Kedah, as a NCER water catchment area.

“We are fully supportive of Penang’s 2030 Vision of becoming a family- focused, green and smart state that inspires the nation,” Dato’ Ir. Jaseni said.
